Eleanor Roosevelt Redux?

I watched part of the so-called debate between  Mrs Clinton and Mr Obama last night. I wondered if her concession speech at the end of the show was sort of an audition for the role of Eleanor Roosevelt in the Reality Show Called American Politics.

Ken, I didn't see that debate, but I did recently see a very well-done PBS special on Eleanor R. She was quite the feisty leftist, wasn't she? lol Pretty fascinating gal.

Thanks N for the note. My only recollection of her was from the 50s and 60s when she was Dowager Empress of the Powers That BE in the Democratic Party. It sounded as if Mrs Clinton was giving up her quixotic dream at the end of that debate. If she did then she would be perfect for the role of Comrade Elder Feminazi for the next generation or so. BTW Mrs Roosevelt suffered from a common problem that celebrities and others sometimes experience, which is they often receive terrible medical advice. She died from tuberculosis, even in the 60s a treatable disease.

“In beholding old stones we may feel our anxieties about our achievements–and lack of them–slacken . . . Vast landscapes [and seascapes] can have an anxiety–reducing effect similar to ruins, for they are the representatives of infinite space, as ruins are the representatives of infinite time, against which our weak, short-lived bodies seem no less inconsequential than those of moths or spiders.”—Alain de Botton in Status Anxiety
