Will On Wisconsin's Bloated Union Demands

I have a hunch that this column of George Will won't make the cut at the Gazette. So here is a lead to the website where it can be read.

The sight of those teachers trashing the state houses in Wisconsin and their whining about "barely scraping by" makes my blood boil.

I loathe public sector unions. My husband and I work very hard and to have the fruits of our labors going to pay the salaries and benefits of those spoiled children is disheartening (to say the least.)

My brother's ex-wife is a teacher in Minnesota. She retired with a huge pension (about 60K or more per year) after earning about 80K per year not counting her extensive benefits (and I may be low on those figures.)

Now she's back to work as a teacher while the pension money rolls in. She's a typical greenie-weenie multi-cult bordering on communist. I have no respect for these people.

The public behavior of the teachers in Wisconsin is beyond appalling. Can you imagine screaming and shouting in public like that? I don't even act like that at a sporting event.

I think there way of dealing with the rest of us is like this: What's mine is mine, and what's yours is negotiable.

Wrong again. The Gazette did carry it. Maybe I am shaming them into doing the right thing. Hmm

“In beholding old stones we may feel our anxieties about our achievements–and lack of them–slacken . . . Vast landscapes [and seascapes] can have an anxiety–reducing effect similar to ruins, for they are the representatives of infinite space, as ruins are the representatives of infinite time, against which our weak, short-lived bodies seem no less inconsequential than those of moths or spiders.”—Alain de Botton in Status Anxiety
