"Christianity, and nothing
else is the ultimate foundation
of liberty, conscience,
human rights, and democracy...
We continue to nourish
ourselves from this source.
Everything else is
postmodern chatter."
- Jürgen Habermas
I thought Professor Habermas was part of the "postmodern chatter." But thank Heaven, Wikipedia once again saved me from utter and advanced ignorance. In fact as far as I can now tell, Habermas argued against Derrida fairly forcefully. In any event, this notion of Christianity as being foundational for many of our main ideas has been occupying my thoughts for some years now.
Holy Whapping
This is a small experiment in the blogosphere. "If you have no interest in what it's like to grow old, what follows is not for you. However, if it's going to happen to you, and the outcome is ultimately going to be negative, then finding a way to make the process as bearable, even as enjoyable as possible, might be worth a little attention."—from John Jerome's On Turning Sixty-Five
