Moscow Ballet Dances Nutcracker In Billings

Tuesday evening Moscow Ballet was in Billings' Alberta Bair Theatre doing their Great Russian Nutcracker along with large numbers of kids from Billings and Bozeman. It was fun except for the ridiculously loud music, not live. So loud that it hurt the ears. I'm sure Mr Tchaikovsky would have objected to his lovely music having all that fuzz on it. The backdrops were a little garish but the dancing was splendid. Attractive young people, both male and female, danced in a relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable way. Some of the young ladies approached nubility. Many of the local kids did very well by the way, though sometimes they seemed to distract from the main event. I'm sure their parents were not distracted. A fairly full house for a change. They are off to Great Falls on Wednesday, 18 December and then to medium- size cities in California.

“In beholding old stones we may feel our anxieties about our achievements–and lack of them–slacken . . . Vast landscapes [and seascapes] can have an anxiety–reducing effect similar to ruins, for they are the representatives of infinite space, as ruins are the representatives of infinite time, against which our weak, short-lived bodies seem no less inconsequential than those of moths or spiders.”—Alain de Botton in Status Anxiety
